A short video with a few ways to remember the names of the guitar strings! Remember - the thinnest string which is on the bottom, is the first string, and the thickest string which is on the top, is the sixth string. The name of the strings from thinnest to thickest (1st to 6th) is - E B G D A E

Holding the plectrum can be tricky. Remember to hold it nice and loosely so that your fingers act as shock-absorbers and help get a nice smooth tone. Try to resist the urge to use two fingers as this makes the hand more rigid.

String mutes, or 'chuckas' as they are sometime nicknamed, are a really cool sound found in songs like Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. The secret to them is to grip the left hand really lightly.
